McLAREN VALE GRENACHE
STYLE —
Specifically produced as a food wine – medium bodied and easy drinking,
yet with vibrant character. Particularly suited to spicy food and a wide
cross section of Mediterranean cuisine.
VITICULTURE —
The fruit is sourced off a well established (41 years), dry grown vineyard
in McLaren Flat, a sub region of McLaren Vale, South Australia. Soil
profile is ironstone pebbles over red loam. Yield is 3-4 tonnes/acre.
VINIFICATION —
A mild, extended growing season produced fruit with uplifted
berry characteristics. The grapes were harvested mid April.
Fermented on skins through to dryness and then basket pressed.
Alcohol 14.5%v/v
TASTING NOTES —
A vibrant fruit dominated style of wine
exhibiting spice and rose petal aromas with a provocative
hint of wild
mushrooms. The palate combines concentrated fruit flavours
with subtle tannins, making it a very approachable style.
This unoaked wine was basket pressed and is best enjoyed
in its youth as a versatile food wine. Medium term cellaring
of 5-7 years will add some complexity. Note: This wine
is sealed with the stelvin closure – especially
for this style of red wine, it allows the freshness of
the fruit components to be “locked” in and
will also assist in the cellaring of the wine.
