STYLE —
Specifically produced as a food wine – medium bodied and easy drinking, yet with vibrant character. Particularly suited to spicy food and a wide cross section of Mediterranean cuisine.
VITICULTURE —
The fruit was sourced off a well established (44 years), dry grown vineyard in McLaren Flat, a sub region of McLaren Vale, South Australia. Soil profile is ironstone pebbles over red loam. Yield was 3 tonnes/acre.
VINIFICATION —
Superb weather conditions prolonged ripening and produced a wine with spice and floral aromas. The grapes were harvested in mid April. Fermented on skins through to dryness and then basket pressed. Alcohol 15.5%v/v.
TASTING NOTES —
This is a fruit dominated style of wine exhibiting spice and rose petal aromas with a provocative hint of violets and wild mushrooms. The palate combines concentrated berry fruit flavours with fine tannins. A very approachable style, this unoaked wine was basket pressed and is best enjoyed in its youth as a versatile food wine. Short term cellaring of 3 – 5 years will add some complexity.
