STYLE —

Specifically produced as a food wine – medium bodied and easy drinking, yet with vibrant character. Particularly suited to spicy food and a wide cross section of Mediterranean cuisine.

VITICULTURE —

The fruit was sourced off a 57 year old, dry grown vineyard in McLaren Flat, a sub region of McLaren Vale, South Australia. Soil profile is red loam over limestone, typically known as terra rossa. Yield was 2 tonnes/acre.

VINIFICATION —

Despite the record heatwave in early March, temperatures levelled back to milder conditions which allowed the grapes to ripen fully and develop good colour and flavour. The grapes were harvested in late March and fermented on skins through to dryness in satic fermenters. Traditional basket pressing gives the wine good mid palate structure and length of flavour. Alcohol 14.5% v/v.

TASTING NOTES —

This is a fruit dominated style of wine displaying a myriad of spice, violets and rose petal aromas. The palate combines concentrated berry flavours and fine tannins finishing with alluring length. This unoaked wine is best enjoyed in its youth as a versatile food accompaniment. Short term cellaring of 4 – 6 years will add some complexity.

AWARDS —
