Valley Watervale Riesling
STYLE —
Produced as a classic dry style.
VITICULTURE —
The fruit for this wine was sourced from a premium Watervale grapegrower – the Castine family Golf House vineyard. The vineyard is on red loam over limestone and the yield was 2 tonnes/acre.
VINIFICATION —
Riesling proved its physiological resilience in buffering the extreme effects of drought and frost preceding the 2007 vintage. The Watervale region once again produced wines with uplifted citrus aromas and flavours. Good natural acidity provided a backbone for wonderful palate structure and length of flavour. The grapes were harvested in the third week of February. Only the free run juice is used for the Tim Gramp Riesling. Fermentation was over two weeks and after cold stabilising/filtering, the wine was bottled in early September. Alcohol 12.5%v/v
TASTING NOTES —
This wine was sourced from 100% Watervale fruit off the Castine family golf house vineyard. A classic style of Riesling with seductive lime, lemon and floral aromas. The zesty and elegant citrus components follow through onto the palate, balanced with refreshing acidity and good length of flavour. Time in the cellar of 6-7 years will reward the consumer with a wine of enticing complexity.
