McLAREN VALE RESERVE SHIRAZ
STYLE —
A full bodied, yet balanced
style of McLaren Vale Shiraz
VITICULTURE —
Selected from an individual vineyard site in McLaren
Vale. Soil profile is red loam over limestone. Yield
was 2 tonnes/acre.
VINIFICATION—
A long, mild growing season produced grapes with
intense colour and flavour. The grapes were harvested
in mid April. Fermented on skins through to dryness
and then basket pressed. Aged in new American oak
hogsheads for 20 months.
Alcohol 13.5%v/v
TASTING NOTES —
First release of the Tim Gramp Reserve Shiraz. This
wine displays enormous generosity of fruit. Following
time honoured basket pressing, the wine was matured
in new American oak hogsheads. The nose exhibits
uplifted blackberry and spice aromas with underlying
smoky vanillin oak. On the palate the multitude of
flavours integrate beautifully with the fine oak
and tannin structure, finishing with depth, balance
and length. Cellaring potential of 7-10 years.
REVIEWS—
James Halliday 2004 Wine Companion - 95 points
Huon Hooke – Sydney Morning Herald 5/8/03
“This is a terrific red, big and solid with lashings of blackberry fruit and charred vanilla oak that’s well integrated with the sweet fruit. Full-bodied and amply proportioned with soft ripe tannins, it is deep and long. A very rewarding drink. Best now to 2015.”
