GILBERT VALLEY SHIRAZ CABERNET RESERVE
View Shiraz Reserve, McLaren Vale
STYLE —
A full bodied, yet balanced style of Shiraz Cabernet.
VITICULTURE —
The fruit for this wine was sourced from the Bear family vineyard, located on the southern cusp of the Gilbert Valley (nestled between the Clare Valley and Barossa Valley). This unique vineyard is in an isolated position on the opposite side of the Barossa ranges and produces wine of immense power and quality. Yield for the 2005 vintage was 1.5 tonnes/acre.
VINIFICATION —
Mild weather promoted slow, even ripening and helped develop distinctive aromas and flavours. The grapes were harvested in mid March. Fermented in static red fermenters on skins through to dryness and then basket pressed. Matured in French oak. Alcohol 14.5%v/v
TASTING NOTES —
A blend of 90% Shiraz and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and matured in French oak hogsheads for 36 months. Spice and blackberry aromas are accentuated with a hint of vanilla pod. As a result of basket pressing, the palate displays complex berry flavours, balanced with fine tannins, finishing with length and finesse. Cellaring of 5-7 years.
